This lesson covers Jesus and His relationship with God the Father and us. 10 pages long
Son of God and SAVIOR: 1. 1 John 1:7 (NIV), 7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
2. 1 John 4:9-14 (NIV), 9. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. (Also Colossians 1:3, 15, 19; John 8:58-59, John 1:1-14)
3. John 10:30-33 (NIV), 30. I and the Father are one.” 31.. Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, 32. but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” 33. “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
JESUS WAS RESURRECTED:
4. Luke 24:6-7 (NIV), 6. He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7. ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”
5. John 11:25-26 (NIV), 25. Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26. and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (also: 1 Cor. 15: all)
6. Matthew 20:19 (NIV), 19. and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”
7. Romans 4:24 - 25 (NIV), 24. but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. (Also Matt. 27:50-54)
HAD POWER TO FORGIVE SINS:
8. Acts 5:31 (NIV), 31. God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins. (Also Matt. 9:2-6, Luke 7:47-50)
9. 1 John 2:2 (NIV), 2. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
10. Romans 5:8 (NIV), 8. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
11. 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV), 21. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
12. John 14:6 (NIV), 6. Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
MEDIATOR: between God and man
13. 1 Timothy 2:5 (NIV), 5. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
14. Hebrews 12:24 (NIV), 24. to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
15. Romans 6:23 (NIV), 23. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Also: John 20:31, John 16:23-26)
JESUS our SHEPARD:
16. 1 Peter 5:4 (NIV), 4. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
17. John 10:11, 15 (NIV),
11. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
15. just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.
18. Hebrews 13:20-21 (NIV), 20. Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21. equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (Also 1 Peter 5:4, John 10:11-18)
JESUS the HEALER:
19. Luke 7:1-17 (NIV), The Faith of the Centurion
1. When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. 2. There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3. The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4. When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5. because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6. So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 9. When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” 10. Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
Jesus Raises a Widow's Son
11. Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12. As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.” 14. Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” 15. The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. 16. They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.” 17. This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country. (Another good story, this is a Long Story starting at John 20:30 to John 21:25)
20. Luke 4:40-41 (NIV), 40. At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. 41. Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah. (Also John 4:46-54)
21. Mark 1:34 (NIV), 34. and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.
JESUS the WORKER OF MIRACLES:
22. John 6:5-14 (NIV), 5. When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6. He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. 7. Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages[a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” 8. Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9. “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” 10. Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11. Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. 12. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13. So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. 14. After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.” (These are rather long stories from John 2:1-11, Matt. 14:22-33)
HE IS TO BE WORSHIPPED:
23. Matthew 2:2 (NIV), 2. and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” (Also Matt. 14:32-33)
24. Matthew 2:11 (NIV), 11. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
25. John 9:38 (NIV), 38. Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.
26. Philippians 2:5-11 (NIV), 5. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6. Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7. rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! 9. Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10. that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11. and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
JESUS the TEACHER:
27. Luke 24:27 (NIV), 27. 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
28. 2 John 1:9 (NIV), 9. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
29. John 7:16 (NIV), 16. Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.
30. John 3:2 (NIV), 2. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” (Also Matt. 4:23, Matt. 7:28-29.)
JESUS the REWARDER:
31. Romans 2:6-10 (NIV), 6. God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” 7. To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. 9. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10. but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
32. Hebrews 11:1-6 (NIV), Faith in Action
1. Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2. This is what the ancients were commended for. 3. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. 4. By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead. 5. By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Also John 15: 9-16, Romans 8:14-18, Colossians 3: 23-24)
33. 1 John 5: 10-15 (NIV), 10. Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
Concluding Affirmations
13. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
JESUS LIVES IN BELIEVERS:
34. 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NIV), 5. Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
35. Galatians 2:20 (NIV), 20. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
36. Romans 8: 10-18 (NIV), 10. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
12. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. 14. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
18.And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. Footnotes: (Also: 2 Corinthians 4: 6-7, Galatians 1: 15-16, Galatians 4: 19, Colossians 1:27, 2 Thessalonians 1:10, Ephesians 3:17)
WE ARE TO BE THE PHYSICAL EXAMPLE OF JESUS LIVING THROUGH US:
37. Romans 8: 29 (NIV), 29. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
38. 2 Corinthians 3: 16-18 (NIV), 16. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
39. 1 John 4: 17 (NIV), 17. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. (also: John 14: 12-15, John 17: 18, John 20: 21, Matt. 10:25, 1 Cor. 10:31, Romans 12: 2, Cor. 6: 17-18)
Who is Jesus?
He is all of these things and much more to those who believe. You see, the word says in Romans 10:17, "So then faith comes hearing and hearing by the word of God." And now it's time to make a decision. Please pray with me now, confessing Christ with your mouth.
Heavenly Father, I pray that you would forgive me of my sins and I forgive all those who have sinned against me. Father I open my heart and invite Jesus into my life, and turn my life over to Him in Love. Fill me with your Spirit, lead and guide me in the path that you would have me to take in Jesus name I pray, amen.
For those of you who have really prayed this pray with your heart, Christ says you are a new creature, all of your old sins are wiped away, all things are new in Christ! Congratulations! Now you need to start praying that God will show you a Good church to go to, so be receptive to the leading of your heart, not your mind, and go to church.
